Kim Bode is a visual artist and researcher based in Berlin, Germany whose practice converges at the intersection of sculpture, sound, and photography, resulting in the creation of immersive and evocative installations. Bode's work revolves around the exploration of landscapes not only as material and physical spaces but also as collective ideas and political terrains. With a keen focus on the transformative aspects and interstices between artificial and 'natural' environments, Bode investigates the ways in which these realms intertwine and influence one another, often leading to intriguing collapses of boundaries and a reevaluation of the human/animal binomial that is imposed by Western thinking and science of the Global North.
Bode's artistic endeavors and radical practice focuses on the presence and agency of both human and non-human entities, while also delving into the intricate web of precarious living conditions and the multifaceted perspectives of social struggles within threatening and threatened environments. Their current fieldwork is dedicated to the rich tapestry of sonic ecologies and field recordings, complemented by the meticulous visual documentation of diverse landscapes that constitute an extended personal archive.
They use parts of this archive to create assemblages of sculptures, sounds and images, evoking uncanny and eerie atmospheres, all of which conjure the elements for an otherworldly storytelling practice and offer a mutual mutation and correspondence or "[...] a way of making-with - as means to embody the fields entanglements of remembering, reordering and reality"¹.
